Experiential Learning

Heifer Global Village programs use an experiential learning approach that promotes learning through direct experience, followed by focused reflection. By experiencing poverty firsthand, participants are able to identify with those who experience this life every day.

Discussions after the activities allow participants to take a hard look at what happened, why and how, they can apply the experience to their everyday life. This method allows the participant to internalize his or her experience.

Several other programs, including team-building activities, also incorporate the experiential method model.
